Clement, Leonhardt Help Bears to Spilt with Limestone

Gaffney, S.C.--Kylee Leonhardt's two-run home run in the first inning of game two was all Mary Anna Clement would need in the circle as Clement allowed just one first-inning run in a 2-1 victory as the Bears rebound after falling in extra innings in game one.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Kendall Osborne, who was hitting second for the first time this year, came through with a two-run single in the top of the third to score Savannah Moorefield and Hannah Jennings to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. 
  • After the Saints scored one in the bottom of the third, the Bears got four runs in the top of the 4th. The Bears got doubles from Jennings and Talon LaClair. LaClair's double was a three-run, two-out double.
  • Limestone got a two-run single from Vic Brewington to cap off a three-run 4th to cut the lead to 6-4. 
  • Limestone then added a single run in the 6th and 7th inning to force extra innings. 
  • Morgan Beeler got her 4th start of the year allowed five runs (two earned) while striking out five Saints in her five innings, earning a no-decision.
  • In extra innings, each team started with a runner on second with no outs. The Bears failed to score in the top of the 8th but the Saints got a two-out single from Madison Chappel off McKayla Watts (2-2) to earn the victory. 
  • All Bears starters got a hit in this one as the Bears had 14 hits on the afternoon but left 13 runners on base. 
STATS OF GAME TWO:
  • Leonhardt gave the Bears an early 2-0 lead with her second home run of the season. 
  • The Saints got a homer in the bottom half as Brewington got her fourth long ball of the season to lead off the bottom of the 1st. 
  • Clement (1-0) allowed just five hits and stuck out three in her second career complete game. 
  • Saints starter Carolina Ruth stuck out 10 Bears and only allowed three hits in her complete game. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Today's contest is the first SAC matchup between these teams as Limestone is in its first year as a SAC member.  
  • LR entered today with a 71-2 record when leading after six innings since 2015. 
  • Game one was also the first time the Bears lost this year when scoring at least six runs (4-1)
  • Leonhardt's home run was her 31st career homer and moves her into sole possession of 9th all-time in team history. 
  • It was the first time since February 16, 2019, the Bears played a doubleheader where both games were decided by one run. On this February day, the Bears beat Lees-McRae 3-2 and 9-8 both in 8 innings.
