Volleyball Outlasts Palm Beach Atlantic and Emmanuel in Five Sets

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team bounced back with a pair of five-set wins in the final day of the Bash at the Beach hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic. The Bears topped the host Sailfish in a dramatic opener before erasing a 2-1 deficit to beat Emmanuel in five in the night cap. 

GAME ONE:
Final: Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Palm Beach Atlantic 2
Records: Lenoir-Rhyne (1-2), Palm Beach Atlantic (4-3)

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • A pair of Bears stepped up and produced career-best games in the five set victory. Senior Rachel Bewick notched a career-high with 30 digs and junior Mackenzie Hulsey had a personal best with 40 assists. 
  • The Bears dominated the first two sets and ran out to a 2-0 lead before the hosts rallied to take sets three and four. 
  • Set five looked to be all LR as they ran out to a 6-1 advantage. However, the Sailfish responded with a 13-7 run to grab the 14-12 lead. 
  • The Bears closed out the win with a 4-0 run to grab the victory.
  • This was the first matchup between the two programs since 2006.

Final: Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Emmanuel 2

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • After a win in the first set, the Bears dropped sets two and three by identical 25-21 margins. The Bears dominated from that point on, winning the fourth set 25-13 and the fifth 15-9. 
  • Prall erupted for 23 kills and 22 digs, her second career 20-20 performance. The senior finished with a .360 hitting percentage and added a pair of assists. 
  • Not to be outdone by her performance in the first match, Bewick topped her career high of digs with 31 in the finale. 
  • Helen Hamilton dished out 42 assists in the contest and added five kills. 
  • LR hit .341 and .167 in the fourth and fifth sets and held Emmanuel to .067 in the fourth and -.095 in the clincher.
UP NEXT:
The Bears will host Wingate on Tuesday night in the home opener at 7 p.m.
