Bears Can't Crack No. 14 Queens in 71-56 Defeat

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Playing without two solid contributors, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team saw its losing streak run to eight in a row with a road loss at No. 14 Queens on Wednesday night. This was the fourth game in the past eight games where LR failed to reach 60 points in the scoring column. 

GAME INFORMATION:

STATS AND INFO:
- Lenoir-Rhyne is in the midst of a stretch where they play three straight against ranked opponents which has never happened in program history
- Each of the past 16 matchups between Lenoir-Rhyne and Queens have come with the Royals being nationally ranked
- This is the longest losing streak for LR since dropping 14 in a row during the 2010-11 seasons
- The Royals came into the game as the fourth-best team in Division II in offensive rebounding and they added 11 more to that total
- LR is now 13-50 all-time against ranked opponents in the NCAA era

FIRST HALF:
- Defense was the name of the game in the opening 20 minutes as the teams combined for just 50 points
- The Bears were 10 for 30 in the first half and went 3 of 15 from deep while the Royals hit 10 of 25 shots and 3 of 10 from long range
- Cooper Fowler's bucket with 5:57 to go in the first half gave LR its biggest lead of the game at 22-15
- The Royals would close the half on a 11-2 run to take a narrow 26-24 edge going into the second half

SECOND HALF:
- The Bears rallied and a Jalen Johnson 3-pointer gave LR a 33-31 lead with 16:10 to play
- Over the next six minutes, LR was held without a field goal as Queens pulled away thanks to a 16-0 run
- Queens led by as many as 17 in the second half and went 14 of 30 from the field in the final 20 minutes
- The Bears hit 38.4 percent in the second half 

ABOUT THE BEARS:
- Johnson paced the Bears with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists
- Salle Wilson had 11 points and Kevin Kangu finished with 10 points
- Tyson McClain added seven points and five boards and Cooper Fowler led LR with six rebounds

NOTABLE ROYALS:
- Jamari Smith had 17 points and 11 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end
- AJ McKee and BJ McLaurin each had 10 points
- The Bears held Kenny Dye to just six points on the night
