Jefferson Breaks Sack Record in Dominating Win Over Tusculum

HICKORY, N.C. - Andre Jefferson broke the Lenoir-Rhyne single game record with 5.5 sacks and the Bears tied the record for most sacks in a game with 10 as they ended the regular season with a dominating win over Tusculum. Jefferson broke the record previously held by Dan Louba (2021) and Brad Lindamood (2001) of four sacks in a game.

STATS AND INFO
  • Jefferson had 3.5 sacks in the first half and the broke the record with a sack in the third quarter. He added a pair of half-sacks in the remainder of the contest to put himself in the record book. Jefferson finished the campaign with 13 sacks which ties for the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
  • The Bears 10 sacks ties the most in a game since recording that same number in a 1998 win over Mars Hill. 
  • Sean White and Zyheir Dillard had first-half rushing touchdowns and Johnathan Medlin converted on field goals from 41 and 47 yards to put the Bears up 20-0 going into the half. 
  • At the 12:06 mark of the third quarter, Dwayne McGee broke a 67-yard touchdown run that put the Bears up 27-0. 
  • A double-reverse flea flicker led to a 41-yard touchdown strike for the Pioneers to put the visitors on the board. LR would answer with a Kelin Parsons TD reception from 24 yards out.
  • The final score of the game came on the first play of the fourth quarter when Tre Simmons connected with Mydreon Vines for a 38-yard TD. 
  • White finished the game 14-for-22 for 161 yards and a passing touchdown to go with 29 yards rushing and a TD. 
  • McGee totaled 90 yards on his 22 carries and Parsons had 52 yards on his three catches. 
  • Defensively, LR held Tusculum to zero yards rushing in the first half and 12 total yards on 26 carries in the game. Deondre Lester also had three grabs which covered 30 yards.
  • Damien Savage led LR with 12 tackles and added a sack and Jon Ross Maye had seven tackles to go with his sack. 
  • Jimmy Palmer III and Percy King had interceptions with Palmer taking his back 25 yards.
  • Jefferson's final stat line was 8 tackles and 5.5 sacks to go with his two quarterback hurries. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • White finished the season with 18 touchdown passes which places him fourth in program history. He added seven rushing touchdowns. 
  • McGee topped 3,000 career yards rushing in the game and his 3,041 career yards rushing places him eighth in program history.
  • The Bears improve to 13-1 in the month of November since the start of the 2018 season.
  • White's 60.2 percent completion percentage this season ranks him second in a single-season in program history.
