JDL Results
The Lenoir-Rhyne men's and women's track and field teams had strong showings in both of their first competitions of the 2022-23 indoor track and field season on Friday and Saturday. The Bears competed in the John Weaver Invitational at Appalachian State on Friday and Saturday, and the the Winston-Salem College Kickoff at JDL FastTrack on Saturday.Ā
At JDL, the Bears had several top finishers in a variety of events, highlighted by freshman
Alexis Brown breaking the school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.43 seconds in the prelim round. She ended winning the event with a final time of 7.45 seconds. Brown also took a home a first place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.08 seconds.
Jordan ShealeyĀ took second in the 200 meters behind her teammate with a time of 25.75 seconds. Shealey was also fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.84 seconds.Ā
Other high finishers for the women's team at JDL included
Olivia Overholt with a second place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.71.
Elizabeth Kessler took fourth in the 3000 meters, and
Paige Ewald and
Kathrin Polke were first and second in the 5000 meters with times of 18:24.63 and 18:35.14 respectively.Ā
For the men at JDL,
Dario Matau won the 60 meters with a time of 6.79 seconds, and
Royce Turner Jr. finished third with a time of 6.92 seconds.
John Sisson and
Lucas Besong were third and fourth in the 400 meters respectively, and
Marcus Crumpler (2:01.79) and Leonardo Martinez (2:02.84) were first and second respectively in the 800 meters.
Jacob Parkinson (15:27.30) and
Lewis BudgenĀ (15:42.53) were also first and second respectively in the 5000 meters.
Nick Henriques also had a third place finish in the triple jump (14.06 meters).Ā
At App State, the women's team finished 7th out of 11 teams, and the men's team finished 8th out of 11. For the men,
Ellis Horton had a second place finish in the weighted throw (15.97 meters), and for the women,
Sofia LaninaĀ (1.57 meters) and
Kennedy Conner (1.52 meters) were second and third respectively in the high jump.
The Bears are back in action next weekend at the Bast-Cregger Invite in Salem, VA.Ā
