#8 Bears Earn Second Win in Three Days

HICKORY, N.C. - For the second time in three days, the No. 8 Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team earned a victory between the bricks. LR scored five of the games first six goals against Florida Tech in a Monday matinee that started at noon.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Toron Eccleston was the offensive star for the Bears, recording seven points on five goals and a pair of assists. 
  • Will Canata had a pair of goals and an assist and Myles Moffat had a goal and two assists. 
  • Joe Venazio netted a pair of goals and Victor Powell scored his first goal of the season. 
  • James Brugger, Nate Ashley and Powell all finished with two caused turnovers as LR forced 12 turnovers on the afternoon. 
  • Noah Johnson had 11 saves for the Bears.
  • Florida Tech was led by a trio of players with two goals each and Zach Rozgonyi and Ben Claffee had three points.
  • Bryce Reece scored the first goal of the game and Florida Tech answered 46 seconds later but LR went on a 5-1 scoring spurt after that and didn't look back.
  • Two of Eccleston's goals came with the man advantage as each team went 2-for-6 with the extra man.
  • Each squad had 27 ground balls and 18 turnovers but LR had the advantage in clears. The Bears were 18-of-20 while Florida Tech went just 14-for-19.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The Bears improve to 5-2 all-time against Florida Tech.
  • This is the second time these two teams have met on Valentine's Day in Hickory with Florida Tech winning the 2015 affair.
  • The last Bear to score five goals in a game was Will Canata against Wingate in April of 2021.
  • The Bears are now 89-3 all-time when leading after three quarters and have won 42 straight during that span. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to Savannah, Ga. for an NCAA Tournament rematch with No. 3 Tampa on Sunday. Face-off is set for 11 a.m.
