FLORENCE, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne Tennis traveled to Florence, S.C. for the second weekend in a row, this time to take on Francis Marion in a dual match. The LR women took a 4-3 win over the Patriots, while the men fell 4-3.
On the women's side, the Bears swept the doubles.
Alicia Wahlberg and
Diana Babinets won 6-2 at No. 1,
Gemma Southwick and
Lucy Whelan won 6-4 at No. 2, and
Evgeniya Pugina and
Sandy Mitsou won by a score of 6-3 at No. 3.
In singles, Whelan won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4,
Sandy Mitsou was victorious at No. 5. 6-3, 6-0. Leticia Lutz also grabbed a win at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0. The Bears improve to 4-2 on the season.
On the men's side,
Joel Hemmings and
Mauricio Hernandez won at No. 2 doubles 6-4.
Rhodri Atkinson won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Hemmings won a marathon match 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 4 singles, and
Connor Gibson won at No. 6 singles 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).
The Bears host their first match of the spring coming up Thursday (2/17) when Lees-McRae comes to town.
