Bears Cruise on Senior Day

Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team cruised to a 75-47 win at home against Mars Hill on Saturday on Senior Day. The Bears have now won 18 straight games in Hickory against Mars Hill. Brandi Hudson led all scorers with 21 points on 9-11 shooting on the afternoon.

STATS AND INFO:
  • Today starts the last four regular season games for the Bears. LR will play the last four in a span of eight days.
  • Tatum McBride, Hanna McClung, and Alyssa Wagner were honored on Senior Day before the game.
  • The win was Coach Smith's 150 career victory. 
FIRST HALF:
  • After the Lions scored the first basket the Bears went on a 12-1 run. A basket by Blaikley Crooks with 5:01 left in the first forced the Lions into a timeout. 
  • Bears took a 20-12 lead into the second quarter. The Lions started hot in the second ten minutes going on a 9-2 run to start the quarter this time forcing a LR timeout.
  • After the timeout the Bears went on a 7-0 run including Emily Harman's first five points of the game. 
  • Harman ended up with nine points in the quarter as the Bears then stormed out to a 14 point lead entering halftime.
  • Bears shot 60.7% from the floor in the first half including 75% (9-12) in the second quarter.
  • Seven players for the Bears had two assists in the first half. 
SECOND HALF:
  • Mars Hill started 1-13 from the field in the third quarter as the Bears held the Lions to just two points in the first 8:10 of the quarter, which allowed the Bears to open a 27 point lead.
  • LR led by as many as 31 in the 4th quarter as the Bears shot 51.7% for the game.
  • LR held the Lions to 5-20 shooting the second half as Mars Hill only scored 18 points in the half.
ABOUT THE BEARS:
  • Hudson lead the Bears with 21 points on 9-11 shooting from the floor.
  • The trio of seniors (McBride, McClung, Wagner) added 21 points including five three points. 
  • Crooks added 12 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes. It was the first time the sophomore was in double digits in scoring since the first game of the season.
NOTABLE LIONS:
  • Emily Novick lead the Lions with 13 points in 19 minutes of the bench.
  • De'Ja Marshall had a game high 13 rebounds.
