HICKORY, N.C. - Newly ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball scored all eight of its runs in the 7th inning and got a gem on the mound from
Tanner Moyers to beat Bluefield State 8-1 in a midweek non-conference matchup at Durham Field.
Wade Cuda hit another home run for his DII-leading eighth of the year, and the Bears racked up 13 more strikeouts on the mound in the win. LR has now won 10 straight games, and the 13-1 start is the best since 1962.

STATS AND INFO
- LR was only able to muster four hits in the first six innings, but, as they often do, broke through in a big way in the 7th. It started with back-to-back hit by pitches to Nick Clarno and pinch hitter Hogan Stallings, followed by an RBI single from Scott Meitzler in a pinch-hit at-bat.
- Bryce Stober followed that up with an RBI bunt single, and then Cuda unloaded on a ball just inside the left field foul pole to make it 5-0 in a flash.
- After back-to-back walks to Cole Laskowski and Drew Yniesta, Anthony Porrino extended his hitting streak and RBI streak to nine games with an RBI single. Porrino, the national leader in RBIs, picked up his 23rd of the season.
- After another hit from Atiles, Clarno drove in two more with a single of his own to make it 8-0.
- Bluefield State got one run in the top of 8th, but the Bears closed the door for the 8-1 win.
- Moyers pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. His ERA shrinks to 2.25 in 16 IP this year.
- Cuda went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and Clarno and Atiles each had two hits with Clarno adding two RBIs.
- Caleb Cockerham continued his torrid start to his freshman season, striking out the side in the 9th. The Clemmons, N.C. native has now pitched 7.2 scoreless innings this season with 13 strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- LR was ranked 24th in this week's NCBWA poll, the first time the Bears have been ranked since 2017.
- The 10-game win streak ties the longest win streak since 2015.
- The Bears' 13-1 start is the best start to a season since 1962, when LR also started 13-1.
- The eight-run 7th inning was the fourth inning of six or more runs this season for the Bears.
- This was head coach Chris Ramirez's 51st win as head coach at LR. The third-year head coach is now 51-30 at the helm of the Bears.
