BELMONT, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne erupted for six goals in the second quarter, with three coming from
Toron Eccleston, to defeat Belmont Abbey in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon. The win was just the second victory in six all-time trips to Belmont Abbey.

STATS OF THE GAME
- It was a defensive battle in the opening quarter with neither team finding the back of the net. LR held an 11-5 advantage in shots in the first 15 minutes but BAC goalie Thomas Sullivan made six saves to keep the game 0-0 after one.
- LR would explode in the second quarter, going on a 4-0 scoring run with four different goal scorers. Toron Eccleston started the scoring before Myles Moffat, Evan Voss and Will Canata each beat the keeper.
- After the Abbey scored their first goal of the game, Eccleston responded with back-to-back goals, the second coming on the man advantage, as LR grabbed a 6-1 lead.
- Matthew Wyatt would end the first half with a goal with one second left to pull Belmont Abbey within 6-2.
- The Crusaders came out of the half hot and scored three straight to cut the Bears lead to 6-5 with 7:15 left in the third quarter.
- LR respnded with back-to-back goals from Canata and one by Joe Venazio to close out the quarter with a 9-5 lead.
- Belmont Abbey scored their last goal of the game at the 13:58 mark of the fourth quarter and David Bell added an insurance goal with 74 seconds left to seal the win.
- LR held a 47-26 advantage in shots and 32-25 edge in ground balls.
- Belmont Abbey turned the ball over 24 times but went a perfect 3-of-3 on the man advantage
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Bears had been 1-4 all-time at Alumni Field prior to today's victory.
- This is the fourth time LR has held Belmont Abbey to single digit scoring in their seven games.
- LR held the Crusaders to just one goal in the final 22:15.
- The Bears are now 90-3 all-time when leading after three quarters.
