BRISTOL, Tenn. - Not to be outdone by their counterparts on the women's side, Lenoir-Rhyne men's tennis picked up an emphatic 7-0 sweep over King on Tuesday in Bristol, Tenn. The Bears have now won four straight matches and haven't lost as a team in over a month.
The dynamic duo of Rhodri Atikinson and
Josh Lazenby added another 6-0 decision to their season at No. 1 doubles, and
Joel Hemmings and
Mauricio Hernandez won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Lewis Scott and
Patrik Alvestrand took a 6-2 win at No. 3 to give the Bears the sweep in the doubles round.
In singles, it was more of the same. Atkinson (6-3, 6-4) and Lazenby (6-3, 6-1) took care of business at No. 1 & 2 singles respectively, and Scott won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3. Hemmings (6-1, 6-2) and Hernandez (6-7, 6-2, 10-8) were both victorious at No. 4 & 5 singles, with Hernandez grinding out a marathon match.
Zachary Cox put the finishing touches on the win for the Bears at No. 6 singles, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
The Bears will finish up their Tennessee road trip tomorrow with a SAC matchup with Lincoln Memorial, starting at 2 p.m. in Harrogate, Tenn.
