SALISBURY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne women's tennis continued its record-breaking stretch on Friday afternoon, defeating Catawba 6-1 for their 11th straight win, extending the program record. The Bears swept the doubles round, and won five out of six matches in the singles round to win comfortably.
In doubles, the duo of
Gemma Southwick and
Lucy Whelan won 6-3 at No. 1,
Alicia Wahlberg and
Diana Babinets swept 6-0 at No. 2, and
Sandy Mitsou and
Evgeniya Pugina won 6-3 at No. 3.
Southwick took care of business 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Pugina won a tough three-set match 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2, Wahlberg won 8-2 at No. 3, and Babinets won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 4 in a hard-fought match.
Sandy Mitsou won 8-7 at No. 5 singles, and
Evelin Menyhart finsihed off the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Bears are back in action at home on Monday when they host Lees-McRae.
