HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne women's tennis extended its program record winning streak to 13 matches on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-1 triumph over Coker. The Bears swept the doubles round and only dropped one singles match to move their SAC record to 6-0.
In doubles, reigning SAC Player of the Week
Gemma Southwick and
Lucy Whelan won 6-2 at No. 1,
Diana Babinets and
Alicia Wahlberg won 6-2 at No. 2, and
Sandy Mitsou and
Evgeniya Pugina won by forfeit at No. 3.Â
In singles, Southwick dropped a marathon three-set match to Jessica Binzari of Coker at No. 1, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. Pugina won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Wahlberg was equally dominant at No. 3, winning 6-0, 6-2. Whelan won 8-4 at No. 4 singles, and Babinets didn't lose a game at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0. Mitsou was again a winner by forfiet at No. 6 singles.
The Bears move to 15-3 overall, and continue a busy week on Saturday at home when Carson-Newman comes to town. 2 p.m. first serve.Â
