Bears Fall Short at Wingate

Wingate, S.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne women's lacrosse team fell at rival Wingate by a final score of 22-9 on Wednesday night. It was the second straight nationally ranked opponent for the Bears who fall under .500 in league play.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Wingate started out hot and never looked back. The hosts scored the first eight goals of the game and 12 of the first 13 in the contest to take the upper hand. 
  • Kaitlyn Cavanaugh was the offensive standout for LR scoring three goals and handing out three assists. 
  • Suzy Smith added two goals and an assist and Ellie Campbell scored twice. 
  • Makenna Filley and Chloe Christensen rounded out the goal scorers for LR.
  • Smith and Kiley Yurchak led LR with two caused turnovers each and Alexa Burghardt had four draw controls. 
  • Bella Pellet led Wingate with five goals and Becca Ruiz had four goals and one assist. 
  • Teanna Sieben made 13 stops in goal for LR.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne didn't have a free position attempt in the contest while Wingate had 12.
  • LR owns two wins over nationally ranked teams in program history. 
  • The Bears won the first seven matchups against Wingate in the series but the Bulldogs have won each of the past two. 
  • This is the ninth time LR has been held to single-digit scoring this year.
UP NEXT: The Bears will host Senior Day when Lincoln Memorial comes to town on Saturday at 1 p.m.
