ANDERSON, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne men's tennis entered the top 25 in the national rankings for the first time this season but weas then upset at #47 Anderson on Saturday afternoon in a tightly contested 4-3 decision.
The duo of
Rhodri Atkinson and
Josh Lazenby grabbed a win in first doubles by a score of 6-2 but Anderson would take second doubles (6-2) and third doubles (6-4) to earn the point heading into singles action.
Atkinson, the reigning SAC Player of the Year, held serve in first singles, winning over Greyson Doscotch in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
Lewis Scott, the SAC Player of the Week two weeks ago, went the distance in third singles and came away with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory and
Mauricio Hernandez swept in sixth singles to give LR three points. However, Anderson would grab victories in sports two, four and five to come away with the win.
The Bears drop to 7-2 in league play after starting 7-0. There is now six teams in the South Atlantic Conference with two or less league losses dropping LR into a third-place tie with Anderson and just a 1/2 game ahead of Tusculum and a game ahead of Wingate.
The Bears will return to action in a big conference match against Tusculum. LR will travel to Greenville, Tenn. for a 2 p.m. first serve.
