Bears Hit 5 Home Runs; Throttle UVA Wise

HICKORY, N.C. - LR hit five home runs, including two from Drew Yniesta, Joshua Lanham pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts to earn his eighth win of the season, and the Bears thumped UVA Wise 15-2 in the series opener on Friday night at Durham Field. LR moves to 32-7 on the season.

STATS AND INFO
  • The Bears struck first in a big way in the 1st inning. After Wade Cuda walked to start the Bear attack, Cole Laskowski lined his first triple as a Bear right inside the first base bag to score Cuda. 
  • After a fielder's choice and a walk, Luis Atiles lined his third homer of the season to right field to make it a 4-0 ballgame. 
  • The Bears struck again in the 6th inning when David Bell crushed his sixth home run of the season to left field, a two-run shot to make it 6-0. 
  • Yniesta hit his 9th homer of the year to lead off the 5th, a no-doubter that cleared the batting cages behind the left field fence to make it 7-0. That was the first of five straight hits in the 5th inning for the Bears. Anthony Porrino added an RBI single, Bryce Stober doubled in two runs, and it was 11-0 after five innings. 
  • Wise got a two-run homer in the 6th inning to make it 11-2. 
  • Yniesta hit another homer to lead off the 6th inning, and then Laskowski hit his second homer of the year, a three-run shot to right field to round out the scoring. 
  • Lanham had a season-high 11 strikeouts in 6 innings, allowing six hits and just the two-run homer. 
  • Tanner Moyers, Andy Cook and Henry Cartrett pitched scoreless innings in relief for the Bears.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • LR moves to 5-0 all-time against UVA Wise.
  • This is the third time in the five meetings that the Bears have scored 15 runs against the Cavaliers. LR has combined for 85 runs in the five games against Wise.
  • Lanham ties for the SAC lead in wins with eight. 
  • Yniesta joins Wade Cuda with double digit home runs this season for the Bears.
