HICKORY, N.C. - The No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne women's tennis team saw its losing streak run to five in a row with a narrow 4-3 home loss to Limestone on Friday afternoon.
The Bears started off on the right foot by grabbing the doubles point.
Gemma Southwick and
Lucy Whelan ran their mark to 16-3 in doubles play with a 6-2 truimph in the number one spot and the duo of
Diana Babinets and
Alicia Wahlberg sealed the doubles point for LR with a 6-2 victory.
However, the tide swung Limestone's way in singles action. Alexandra Dolfi topped Southwick 7-5, 7-6 in first singles and Limestone also grabbed a straight set victory in the second spot. Whelan nabbed a thriller in third singles, winning 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 to improve to 7-3 in league play. Babinets cruised to a straight set win in fourth singles 6-1, 7-6 but the Saints would win fifth singles (5-7, 2-6) and the sixth spot (3-6, 4-6) to steal the victory,
The Bears will look to get back on track in their regular season finale when SAC-leading Queens comes to Hickory on Tuesday.
