Bears Sweep Catawba to Move to 7-1 in SAC Play

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team swept Catawba 3-0 to run its winning streak to 16 in a row inside Shuford Arena. Colette Romp had a career night with a .643 hitting percentage as the Bears moved to 7-1 in league play.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

  • Romp finished the evening with a match-high 11 kills on just 14 swings and added four digs and a pair of blocks.
  • Emmaleigh Allen was second on the squad with seven kills and also added four digs.
  • Ashley Hawkins had three aces on the night.
  • LR hit a season-high .351 as a team in the victory.
  • The two teams combined for 21 service errors in the three sets. 
  • No player reached double figures in kills for the visitors who were led by nine from Rachel Gonzales.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • This is the second time this month that the Bears swept Catawba. The two teams will meet three times this year with the unbalanced schedule.
  • LR has started its five game home stand with a 3-0 record and three sweeps.
  • LR has won 10 straight over the Indians, the longest winning streak in series history. 
  • LR last lost to Catawba in 2016.

UP NEXT: LR will return to action on Friday when they host Mars Hill at 6 p.m.
