Bears Dominate Both Ends of the Floor in Win at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team shot just under 50 percent from the field and hit 10 3-pointers while holding Mars Hill to their second-lowest scoring output this year. LR held the Lions to just 41.5 percent shooting and 30.8 percent from long range. The Bears also hit 16-of-17 from the free throw line in the win.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Bears held Mars Hill to just 25 first half points and permitted the Lions to connect on just 35.7 percent shooting. LR went into the break with a 37-25 advantage thanks to a 15-2 run to close the period. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne held Mars Hill to just two points in the final 7:09 of the first half. The Lions were scoreless for 5:25 of game action. 
  • LR was paced by Tay Smith who went for 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Smith hit five three pointers and all four free throws. 
  • Nas Tyson had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. 
  • Sam Martin was the third Bear in double figures with 10 points.
  • Kory Davis had 18 points for the Lions and Kadyn Dawkins had 13. 
  • LR's bench outscored the Lions reserves 22-5. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 
  • Smith's 23 points and five threes are career highs. 
  • The Bears own a 74-34 all-time edge over Mars Hill in the head-to-head series including 11 of the last 12. 
  • Tyson has scored in double figures in seven straight games.
  • The 21 point victory is the largest for LR since beating Coker by 38 on Jan 11.  
  • LR is 3-2 on the road and 1-1 in neutral site games. The Bears have played just two games at home this year.
