Five Bears Score in Double-Figures in Win Over Coker

Hartsville, S.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team had five players in double-figures as the Bears defeated Coker 75-50 on Saturday afternoon. The Bears have now won three straight SAC games after falling in their opener.  Emily Harman and Alexandra Merceron both had 15 points to lead the Bears in the victory.

STATS AND INFO:

  • Bears have won three straight games against Coker after today's win. 
  • Harman's 15 points is a career high against Coker. Harman came in averaging 10.4 points per game in her five games against Coker. 
  • This was LR's last conference game until the new year. Bears will finish 2023 with trips to Belmont Abbey and King.
  • Bears moved to 4-1 on the road this year. 
  • Blaikley Crooks is now 60 points away from 1,000 in her career. 

FIRST HALF:

  • Coker jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the opening quarter. LR did score the last four points to cut the lead to five after ten minutes. 
  • A Tilda Lindstrom three-pointer with 6:33 left in the first half gave the Bears their first lead of the day. 
  • After Coker retook the lead, Crooks hit back to back layups to retake the lead for good. 
  • Bears scored the last eight points in the half to open a 11-point lead. 

SECOND HALF:

  • Coker scored the first two baskets of the third quarter to cut the lead to seven however that would be the closest they would get. 
  • The Bears then went on a 14-4 run to break the game open.
  • Bears opened a 25 point lead with 2:16 left as LR won their third straight game. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Merceron's 15 points were a career high as Merceron added seven rebounds to lead the team as well. 
  • Crooks added 14 points, four rebounds and four steals on the night. 
  • Lindstrom and Maleiya Hill were the 4th and 5th Bears in double-digits. Lindstrom had 12 points while Hill had ten.
  • Bears defense forced 28 turnovers on the night which was a season-high. In total, The Bears have forced 78 turnovers in the last three games. 

UP NEXT: Bears will step out of conference play to travel to Belmont Abbey on Tuesday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
