Women's Basketball Reaches 100-Point Mark for First Time Since 2003

Hickory, N.C.-- For the first time since the 2002-03 season, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team scored 100 points in a game as the Bears defeated Emory & Henry 102-68 inside Shuford Arena on Saturday afternoon.  Blaikley Crooks lead the Bears with 22 points while Mikeba Jones added 19 points and nine rebounds. This was the 17th time the Bears have reached the 100-point mark in program history.

STATS AND INFO:

  • Bears move to 16-1 when scoring at least 100 points. 
  • The last time the Bears completed this feat was on January 15th, 2003 with a 114-92 with against Newberry. 
  • This was the Bears first home game since November 21st. Bears just completed a three game road trip.
  • LR will now head back on the road for five more games and will not return to Shuford Arena until January 6th, 2024
  • So the Bears will have played one home game in a 46 day span from November 21st to January 6th. 
  • Bears will have nine home games in the new year. 
  • This was the Emory & Henry first ever trip to Hickory as the Wasps joined the SAC last year. 

FIRST HALF:

  • Back and forth first quarter as the teams were red hot from the floor as Crooks had 15 first quarter points while Emma Santoro had 16 points for the Wasps as the Bears held a 25-24 lead after the first ten minutes.
  • Bears then used a 15-0 run the second quarter as LR took control of the game as the Bears lead 49-38 after the first half.
  • Bears shot 60% from the floor in the second quarter after shooting 52% in the first ten minutes. Crooks had 20 of her 22 points in the first half.

SECOND HALF:

  • Bears hot shooting continued as LR hit 10 of 15 shots to open the second half as the Bears shot 66% in the third quarter. 
  • The lead grew to 34 points with 1:59 left in the game, which was the final margin. 
  • Andrea Torres drilled a three pointer with :32 seconds left give the Bears 100 points for the first time since the 2002-03 season. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Emily Harman missed a double-double by two points as the senior had 8 points and ten assists.
  • Tilda Lindstrom had 13 of her 18 points in the third quarter. Lindstrom added five rebounds. 
  • Bears forced 24 turnovers on the day and out scored the Wasps 34-2 off turnovers. 
  • LR shot 14-16 from the free-throw line as Jones and Lindstrom each went a perfect 4-4. 
  • This is the 17th all-time 100-point game for the Bears.

UP NEXT: LR will jump back on the road with a date at Mars Hill on Wednesday night. Tip-of is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
