Greenwood, S.C.-- On day two of the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational, the Bears used some late game heroics to come away with a sweep. Down a run in the seventh inning, Julia Mardigian hits a one-out solo home run to tie the game then the Bears got an RBI single from Lauren Jackson in the 8th inning to avenge Friday's loss to the Lions as the Bears slip past Emmanuel 5-4. In game one, the Bears offense struck for ten runs to beat Concord 10-1.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME ONE:
- Jackson gave the Bears a two run lead just four batters into the game as the freshman drove in two with a two-run single.
- Bears added three more in the second thanks to a passed ball, an error and a Mardigian RBI groundout.
- Bears put the game away with a five-run fourth inning. Talon LaClair had a two-run double and Faith Carrigan had a pitch hit, two-run single as the Bears enforced the mercy rule after the fifth inning.
- Morgan Beeler got her fourth win of the season with the complete game. The senior allowed six hits and one run while striking out seven.
- Camden Gerland and Kaylan Brown had two hits apiece while Carrigan, LaClair, Jackson and Mardigian each had a pair of RBIs.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- Lora Beth Wood drove in Mardigian with a two-out single down the left field line to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- After tossing a scoreless first inning, Rakes stepped up to the plate and crushed her second home run of the season to extend the lead to three.
- Alyssa Adams got one of those runs back for Emmanuel as she hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second.
- Emmanuel scored two runs in the fifth to tie it then went ahead in the solo run in the sixth inning.
- With Emmanuel looking for back to back wins against the Bears this weekend, Mardigian stepped up and blasted a game-trying homer with one out in the 7th inning.
- After the Bears forced extra innings, Jackson drove in Anna Blume with an infield single to give the Bears a 5-4 lead.
- With a runner starting on second in extra innings, the Lions got a runner to third with one out but Beeler got Abigail Curry to strike out and Adams to ground out to give the Bears the victory.
- Beeler picked up her second win of the day and third of the weekend as the senior worked 2 2/3 hitless innings in relief.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Game one today was played at Erskine while game two was played at Lander. They two school are separated by 19 miles.
- With the Bears coming in at No. 24 this week in the NFCA Coaches' Poll, the Bears have spent at least one week in the rankings for eight straight seasons.
- LaClair has now reached base in all eleven games this year and Cassidy Wall nine straight games.
- Beeler got all four decisions in the circle this weekend as the senior went 3-1.
- With her seven strikeouts in game one, Beeler surpassed the 300 career strikeout mark.
