Bears Defeat Lincoln Memorial 76-67 on Senior Day

Hickory, N.C.--. With her first basket in the third quarter, junior Emily Harman became the 24th player in program history to score 1,000 career points as the Bears celebrated Senior Day with a 76-67 victory over Lincoln Memorial. Harman finished with 22 points for the second straight game and Blaikley Crooks added 17 points.

STATS AND INFO:
  • Madi Suddreth was the last Bears to score 1,000 points during the 2018-19 season. 
  • The Bears won their seventh straight game against LMU.
  • Bears honored seniors Azariah Fields and Hannah Stull before the game.
  • Brandi Hudson (49.7%) and Crooks (49.3%) are fourth and fifth respectively in the SAC in FG % heading into today's contest. 
FIRST HALF:
  • For the second straight game, the first quarter was a back-and-forth game with neither team opening a lead more then one possession. 
  • Jalen Gathers scored with six seconds left in the opening quarter to get the Bears within one at 14-13. 
  • After making just five field goals in the first quarter, the Bears dropped 27 points in the second quarter as the Bears hit 11 of 17 field goals in the period. 
  • The Bears outscored the Railsplitters 27-9 in the second quarter including a 10-0 run to close the quarter. Harman lead the Bears with 12 first half points while Hannah Stull, Blaikley Crooks and Gathers had seven apiece. 
SECOND HALF:
  • Harman's jumper to open the third quarter gave the junior her 14th point of the game and her 1,000th career point. Harman is the 24th player in program history to achieve the milestone.
  • With 72% shooting from the floor in the third quarter, the Railsplitters cut the lead into single digits at 52-44 heading in to the 4th. 
  • Despite shooting just 36.4% in the fourth quarter the Bears did not allow Lincoln Memorial to get closer than eight points as the Bears shot 19 free throws in the final frame converting 15 of them to put away LMU. 
  • Crooks scored 12 points in the second half while Harman had ten. 
  • Bears defense forced 22 turnovers on the afternoon and scored twenty-two points off turnovers. Fields and Stull had a pair of steals each. 
ABOUT THE RAILSPLITTERS:
  • Alexa Smiddy and Saquita Joyner entered the game 6th and 7th in points per game in the SAC as the duo scored 47 of the Railsplitters 67 points on the afternoon.
  • Geovana Rios only scored one basket but had a game-high twelve rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals. 
  • Smiddy and Joyner joined Rios with a pair of steals. 
ABOUT THE BEARS:
  • Harman and Crooks combined to go 12-14 from the free-throw line. 
  • Megan Landsiedel had a team high six rebounds add pitched in five points.
  • Fields had 8 points, three assists and a pair of rebounds and steals. 
UP NEXT:  Bears will travel to Carson-Newman for the make up games against the Eagles on Monday evening. Tip-Off is schedule for 5:30.
