Women's Lacrosse Honors Alyssa Sack in Win Over Montevallo

HICKORY, N.C. -- Just days after learning of the passing of 2021 alumna Alyssa Sack, the Bears honored Sack with a pregame video board tribute and then overcame emotion to defeat Montevallo 14-11 at Moretz Stadium. In the victory, head coach Carlee Buck earned her 50th win at the helm for LR.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Ellie Campbell led the Bears with four goals and added an assist in the victory. 
  • The Bears also got five points from Kaitlyn Cavanaugh who had two goals and three assists. 
  • Montevallo struck first but the Bears answered with three straight goals. The Falcons evened it at three before LR answered with another 3-0 run.
  • The Bears took a 7-4 lead into the break thanks to a goal from Jolan Morey
  • The Bears would explode for five goals in the third quarter with Campbell scoring twice and four others tallying one goal. 
  • The visitors tallied one final run to cut it to 12-9 in the fourth quarter but Campbell and Hannah Shuren scored back-to-back to put the Bears up five and seal the victory.
  • Each squad had 19 shots on goal but LR had a 16-13 edge in draw controls. Morey grabbed seven DC's for the Bears to lead the way.
  • Teanna Sieben earned the win in goal with seven saves. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Montevallo head coach Adrianna Piontek was an assistant on the LR coaching staff for two seasons and coached Sack while she was at LR. 
  • Buck is the all-time leader in wins for LR women's lacrosse. She has long surpassed Sue Eaker's 30 wins. 
  • LR is 3-0 all-time against Montevallo.
UP NEXT: The Bears will continue their six-game home stand to open the season with a game against Roberts Wesleyan Wednesday at 5 p.m.
