Bears Overpower Bald Eagles in Bear Bash Finale

Hickory, N.C.-- The finale of the Bear Bash saw Lenoir-Rhyne get home runs from Katelyn Rackard and Talon LaClair and Cassidy Wall drove in four runs as the Bears defeated Lock Haven 10-2 in six innings. Morgan Beeler earned the win as the Bears improved to 15-1 overall and went 3-0 this weekend at the Bear Bash.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The Bears pushed across three runs in the bottom of the first. After a leadoff walk to Katelyn Rackard, Talon LaClair moved her over with a base hit to right. Cassidy Wall brought them both home with a double to left center and would score herself on an errant throw.
  • A pair of run-scoring singles in the top of the third by the Bald Eagles drew them within one at 3-2.
  • Wall would knock in her third run of the game with a single in the bottom half of the third to give the Bears a 4-2 edge.
  • Wall would continue to add to her RBI total with a single to left that scored Kaylan Brown in the bottom of the fourth to put LR up 6-2.
  • Lauren Jackson, who had an RBI single in the third, drove in another run in the fifth with a rocket off the left center fence to plate Julia Mardigian and it was 7-2 after four.
  • Rackard started the bottom of the sixth with a bomb to left center, her fourth of the year and seventh of her career.
  • After a base hit by Mardigian, LaClair crushed a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right for her 20th career bomb. 
  • Wall finished 2-of-2 with four RBIs and LaClair and Mardigian each scored three times.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Rackard came into the game today hitting .625 during her five game hitting streak and came a homer shy of the cycle against Johnson C. Smith yesterday.
  • Bears moved to 150-30 since 2015 when they score first.
  • The Bears scored 20 runs in the first inning on this five game home stand.
  • Wall has now reached base in 15 straight games and this was her second career 4-RBI game.

UP NEXT: LR will open SAC play with a doubleheader at Limestone on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM from Gaffney, S.C.
