Women's Basketball Drops Third Straight

Wingate, N.C.--  The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team had no answer for the red-hot Bulldogs as Wingate shot a scorching 71% from the floor including 11-of-15 from beyond the arc to take care of the Bears 92-64. It was the first time the Bears have given up 90-plus points since March 4, 2020. Brandi Hudson scored 19 points to lead the Bears as LR will head to Tusculum on Saturday looking to snap their three-game losing streak.

STATS AND INFO:
  • It was the first time an opponent has scored 90 points in the last 69 games. Carson-Newman went over the 100-point mark in the SAC Quartefinals in 2020. 
  • The Bears have now lost eight straight games at Cuddy Arena.
  • The last time a team shot over 50% from beyond the arc was Wingate on December 13, 2019 when the Bulldogs went 7-for-11 from three. 
  • Emily Harman had 13 points tonight and now only 55 points away from 1,000 career points.  
  • Megan Landsiedel returned to the lineup after missing the last five games due to injury. 
FIRST HALF:
  • The Bears shot 50% in the first quarter, including a pair of three-pointers. However, the Bulldogs were even hotter, shooting at a 57.1% clip to open the game including 4-5 from long range. Wingate lead for all but 19 seconds in the quarter. Emily Harman had seven of the Bears 15 points in the quarter. 57.1% ended up being the worst shooting quarter of the game for the home team. 
  • Wingate put on a shooting clinic in the second quarter as the Bulldogs shot 84.6% in the quarter including a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the arc. Wingate scored 31 points in the quarter. 
  • The Bears came into the game only allowing their opponents to shot 27% from three but Wingate made ten of eleven in the first half tonight as the Bulldogs opened up a 25 point lead during the quarter and a 54-29 lead at intermission. 
  • Wingate's Emily Hege lead all scorers with 16 points in the half while Harman had nine points for the Bears. 
SECOND HALF:
  • BrandI Hudson scored 11 straight points for LR but the Bears could not cut into the Wingate lead in the third quarter as each team scored 20 points. 
  • After shooting 84% in the second quarter, Wingate cooled off a little in the second half but still shot 72.7% in both the third and fourth quarters as the Bears could not muster any long scoring runs.
  • Hudson had 17 points in the second half to finish with 19 points to lead the Bears. 
  • With Wingate shooting so well, the Bears only had nine defensive rebounds on the night. 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS:
  • Hege had a career-high 28 points to lead all scorers.
  • Laura Kozo returned after missing the last two months to score nine points and four rebounds off the bench. 
  • Lauren Sullivan and Bryanna Troutman added 16 points each. Troutman had seven rebounds as well. 
ABOUT THE BEARS:
  • Harman and Blaikley Crooks joined Hudson in double figures. 
  • Azariah Fields added eight points and five assists. 
  • Hudson went a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. 
UP NEXT:  LR will conclude their three game road trip with a date with Tusculum on Saturday. Tip-off is schedule for 2:00 PM.
