Men's Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale to LMU

Box Score

HARROGATE, Tenn. - On the final day of the regular season, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team suffered a 7-0 defeat to Lincoln Memorial.

In doubles, all three matches were highly competitive, but each outcome read out the same fate – a 6-4 LMU victory, which allowed the Railsplitters to grab the early lead.

Despite some close matchups in singles, the Bears could not catch a break as they fell short in three-set outcomes.

In No. 1 singles, Zachary Cox was able to pull out a commanding second set victory at 6-1, but the sophomore could not overcome Alexandru Giurea in the 10-point tiebreaker, as he was on the losing end of a 10-5 scoreline.

At the No. 3 singles line, Patrik Alvestrand won the second set, 6-3, to force a third. But in the 10-point tiebreaker format, the senior was ousted 10-5.

For Joel Hemmings, the junior also knotted his match up at one set apiece after an electrifying 7-6 (5) second-set victory. However, he dropped the third set in a 6-3 outcome.

Up next for the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team is the SAC Men's Tennis Tournament. The Bears have clinched the No. 7 seed and will face the No. 2 seed in the quarterfinal round. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start on Thursday, April 20 from the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
