NEWBERRY, S.C. - A couple of mistakes by the Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team brought their SAC Tournament to a close, after suffering a 7-6 defeat to No. 1 seed Newberry.
Having taken a 6-5 lead in the top half of the eighth off a Newberry error, the Bears had a pair of misthrows in the bottom half of the frame to give the edge right back to the hosts.
In what was an elimination game for the Bears, they provided moments of spark with a three-run fifth and a two-run eighth. But in both innings, the Wolves howled right back, matching the Bears in both respective frames.
With the win, Newberry will head to the SAC Baseball Championship Series on Sunday, May 7 in Kodak, Tenn. Their opponent for the best-of-three series has yet to be determined.
