HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team squeezed out a 4-3 victory over Mars Hill to make their way back into the win column.
The afternoon got off to another blistering start for the Bears as they swept the doubles matches to take the doubles point in convincing fashion.
The same could not have been said about singles though, as Zachary Cox and Vadym Rogynskyi had to pull off come-from-behind victories at the top two lines.
At No. 1 singles, Cox struggled in the opening set, taking a 6-1 defeat, but the sophomore only dropped one game for the remainder of the match to steamroll his way to the finish line in a 6-1, 6-0 result.
Meanwhile for Rogynskyi, the freshman faced a similar paradigm, having lost the first set by a one-sided result. But the No. 2 singles player rallied to control the rest of the match and take the clutch point in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 final.
Joel Hemmings sealed the win for the Bears at No. 6 singles as he dominated Youseef Ardouni in 6-1, 6-2 outcome. The junior was not originally in the lineup, but served as a last-minute replacement when Rufus Plane could not participate.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team will return to the YMCA of Catawba Valley on Thursday, April 6 as the Bears take on the Catawba Indians at 1:00 p.m.
