WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams marked their return to the JDL Fast Track for the first time in 2024 for the Camel City Invitational.
Holly Kone had a decorated outing on the field and the track with top 10 finishes in the women's triple jump and 200-meter race. The junior out of Nottingham, England notched the best result for LR over the weekend with a second-place finish of 11.77 meters in the triple jump.
Meanwhile, in the 200-meter dash, Kone tallied a 26.6 time to finish 10th in the event, the same finish the junior had in the season-opening race at the Commonwealth College Opener.
The Bears continued to succeed in the triple jump events as Nick Henriques recorded a 14.24-meter leap to finish fourth in the men's competition. The junior from Acworth, Ga. was coming off his season-best performance of 14.34 meters at the Vanderbilt Invitational last weekend.
Another LR participant to earn a top five finish in the field was Ellis Horton, who notched a toss of 16.16 meters in the men's weight throw event. That distance is good enough for a new season-best for the senior out of Mount Pleasant, N.C.
In the men's shot put, Josh Wise produced his fourth Top 10 finish of the season with a seventh-place result of 14.17 meters. The mark is an improvement from his past week's performance, where he recorded a 14-meter throw at the Finn Pincus Invitational.
For the women's field, Mathilde Etienne tallied a new collegiate best in the long jump event with a seventh-place leap of 5.30 meters. The graduate student began her indoor season last weekend, but the long jump competition was the first field event that she has participated in.
Carolin Fuehren registered a new personal best in the mile event with a fourth-place time of 5:05.18. The tally was nearly eight seconds faster than her previous mile high, which was also at the JDL Fast Track. In three of her four indoor events, the freshman has recorded at least a top four finish.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams will return to action next weekend with another multi-competition slate. LR athletes will either compete at the VMI Winter Relays at Lexington, Va. or the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Both competitions will be two-day events beginning on Friday, Feb. 2.
