Bears continue historic start with 3-0 win over Coker

HARTSVILLE, SC - Thanks to a big 3-0 win over Coker on Tuesday night, (RV) Lenoir-Rhyne is just the fifth DII volleyball team to reach at least 17 wins this season, and the first team in the SAC to reach that mark. Leading the way on the night was Kayli Cleaver, who notched 12 kills and four blocks on a .478 hitting %.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • A Jenna Vogen midway through the first set ignited a 9-2 run, putting the Bears up 19-12.
  • Kiley Redfern and Vogen each notched late kills to take the opening set. 
  • The Bears never trailed in the second set, and a kills from Sydney Karjala and Averie Dale put the Bears up 21-9. 
  • Redfern closed out set two with a kill, her third of the match.
  • An early Kayli Cleaver kill and Dale block put the Bears ahead early in set three.
  • Up 23-16, the Bears got kills from Kathy Peter and Leah Hinceman to take the match.
  • Kayli Cleaver led with 12 kills, followed by Kathy Peter (6) and Jenna Vogen (6). 
  • Rachel Wildermuth (17) and Sydney Karjala (15) combined for 32 assists on the night.
  • Hadley Prince (13) was the only Bear to finish with double-digit digs. 
  • Cleaver and Averie Dale tied for the lead with four blocks. 
  • The Bears hit .283 as a team, compared to just .038 for the Cobras.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne hasn't lost to Coker since 2017 and are on a 13-game winning streak against the Cobras.
  • The Bears now lead the all-time series 26-3. 
  • 17-1 is the best 18-game start in school history. The second best mark was a 14-4 start in 2004. 
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will be back in Shuford on Friday night against Emory & Henry. It will be Bears Fight Back/Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Frye Regional Medical Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
