Bears return home to sweep Emory & Henry

HICKORY, N.C.--  Down 18-12 in the second set and everything going Emory & Henry's way, the Bears went on a 11-0 run to take back momentum and win set two. They carried this momentum into the third set, sweeping Emory & Henry on Friday night inside the Shu. Kayli Cleaver had a game high 10 kills as eight different Bears notched a kill on the evening. This win makes it five in a row for the Bears, moving them to 18-1 on the season and 9-1 in the SAC.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • With the score tied at 12 in the first set, the Bears scored 13 of the game's last 16 to win 25-15.
  • The Bears had seven aces in that opening set, led by a pair from Sydney Karjala and Jenna Vogen.
  • Trailing 18-12 in the second set, the Bears went on a 11-0 run and scored 13 of the set's last 16 points to go up 2-0. 
  • Cleaver had five of her game high 10 kills in the second set.
  • For the first time on the night Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to an early lead in the third set, quickly going up 19-9.
  • LR did not look back, closing out the set with a 25-14 victory.
  • The Bears had a .143 hitting % on the night, including a game high .219 in the third set. 
  • LR tied a season high with 11 aces on the night. 
  • Sydney Karjala led with 14 digs, followed closely by Lyndsie Warren (13) and Hadley Prince (13).
  • Karjala dished out 17 assists while Averie Dale led with four blocks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Bears are now 4-0 all-time against the Wasps.
  • Both games last year went five sets. 
  • Cleaver is the third player in the SAC this year to go over 200 kills on the season. 
  • Dale entered the day the SAC leader in blocks per set.
  • It was Pink Out night in the Shu, as the teams and fans wore pink to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
UP NEXT: The Bears will host UVA-Wise on a rare Monday evening contest. The Cavaliers currently sit at 8-9 (2-6 SAC) and fell 3-1 vs. Mars Hill earlier tonight. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM from Shuford Arena.
