Volleyball sweeps UVA-Wise for sixth straight win

HICKORY, N.C.--  The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball is on fire, as a sweep of UVA-Wise give them their sixth straight victory. Jenna Vogen and Averie Dale had nine kills each in this rare Monday night contest. Lenoir-Rhyne has not dropped a set since they took down Lincoln Memorial 3-1 on October 5th. The Bears will now head to Carson-Newman for a key SAC contest on Friday night. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Bears raced out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back en-route to a 25-17 set victory.
  • The first set was won behind four kills each from Brooke Aeschliman and Averie Dale
  • Kayli Cleaver had four kills in the second set as LR used an 11-2 run to erase an 11-7 deficit and take set two 25-16. 
  • The third set was the closest of the night, with Lenoir-Rhyne coming out on top 25-21. The Bears hit an incredible .325 in the last set.
  • Lyndsie Warren lead the Bears with nine digs while Jenna Vogen and Sydney Karjala had eight. 
  • In what is a rare occurance, the Bears were not the winners at the net, as the Cavs notched eight blocks, compared to five for LR.
  • Sydney Karjala had 20 assists while Rachel Wildermuth had 19 on the night. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Bears have won all 9 meetings all-time against the Cavs.
  • UVA Wise has won just one of 25 sets all-time against LR. 
  • Brooke Aeschliman moved into fourth place in the SAC with .40 aces per set. 
  • Aeschliman had 16 service aces in her last eight games before tonight. 
  • Bears as a team had six aces on the night, including three from Hadley Prince
  • LR has not dropped a set since October 5th against Lincoln Memorial. 
UP NEXT: The Bears have a key SAC match up on Friday night at Carson-Newman. The Eagles are 8-2 in the SAC and will travel to Newberry on Tuesday before the showdown with the Bears on Friday night from Jefferson City. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
