Eagles hand Bears just their second loss of the season

JEFFERSON CITY, TN -  Lenoir-Rhyne wasn't on their A-game on Friday night, falling to Carson-Newman in straight sets. This was just the second loss of the season for the Bears, who are off to a program best 19-2 start. LR struggled offensivley in the contest, as they finished with just a .164 hitting %, their fourth lowest of the season.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Eagles went up 13-5 early in the opening set and didn't look back, taking the opening set 25-20.
  • An Averie Dale kill ignited an early 7-3 run for Lenoir-Rhyne in set two.
  • Carson-Newman quickly erased that deficit, closing the set on a 22-9 run to go up 2-0. 
  • The Eagles used an 8-3 start in the third set to pull away from the Bears for the sweep.
  • Jenna Vogen led with 11 kills, while Sydney Karjala dished out 18 assists.
  • Brooke Aeschliman nearly had a double-double, finishing with 11 digs and a season-high nine kills.
  • The Bears hit just .164 in the contest, compared to .288 for Carson-Newman.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne now holds a 38-42 record against the Eagles. 
  • The series began in 1983 when LR took down C-N 3-0. 
  • This was just the second loss of the season for the Bears, who fell to Wingate earlier this month.
  • The Bears are tied with Carson-Newman for second in the SAC. Wingate leads with a 10-1 conference record. 
The Bears won't have much time to think about tonight's defeat as they turn around to face Lander tomorrow in Greenwood, South Carolina. First serve for this non-conference contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
