Bears remain unbeaten with 1-0 victory over Carson-Newman

HICKORY, N.C.-- Evan O'Leary scored continued her dominant season on Saturday, scoring a point for the 10th straight game. Her assist to Ava Hartman in the 44th minute was the difference as the Bears held on to take down Carson-Newman 1-0 in Hickory. The win moves the Bears to the top of the SAC with 22 points.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The teams were about to go into the break locked at 0-0, but Evan O'Leary's assist set up Ava Hartman for her 6th goal of the season late in the half. 
  • The goal was the game's only goal as it was Hartman's first ever game-winning goal. 
  • The Bears held the Eagles without a shot in the first half as LR had a 9-0 advantage. 
  • LR matched the first half with nine shots in the second half but could not find the back of the end despite having five more shots on goal.
  • Riley Miller stopped the only shot on goal for the Eagles as the Bears held C-N to just three shots in the game. 
  • Bears had five of their six corner kick opportunities in the first half. 
  • No yellow cards during the match and only twelve total fouls. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The win moves the Bears to 19-0-5 in their last 24 home games. 
  • Bears have also now won their last eight games against the Eagles and have outscored them 19-4 in that span.
  • Bears are now two points ahead of Catawba in the SAC standings. The two teams met in Hickory on November 6th. 
  • O'Leary's now leads the SAC with 10 assists.
  • O'Leary becomes just the 6th player in program history with 10 assists in a single season. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will have a week off until they welcome Limestone to Moretz Sports Athletic Complex next Saturday evening. Limestone is currently in a tie for 7th in the SAC and will face Tusculum on Sunday before facing the Bears next Saturday.
