Lenoir-Rhyne football suffers first defeat of season at Emory & Henry

EMORY, VA - The Bears suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 31-20 at Emory & Henry. This loss ends the Bears seven game winning-streak against the Wasps.

With the loss, Lenoir-Rhyne drops to 4-1 (2-1 SAC), while Emory & Henry improves to 4-1 (2-1 SAC).

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne led 3-0 after the first quarter thanks to a 36 yard field goal from Jake Brown.
  • Emory & Henry would later respond with an 11 play, 75 yard touchdown drive capped off by a Cole Lambert 17 yard passing TD to Cam Peoples.
  • Alex Boyd scored a six yard rushing touchdown before halftime to give the Bears a 10-7 lead at the break.
  • DeAree Roger's 34 yard touchdown reception extended the lead 17-7 for the Bears in the 3rd Quarter.
  • The Wasps went on to score 10 unanswered points, tying the game at 17-17 in the 4th Quarter.
  • Jake Brown drilled the go-ahead 38 yard field goal to give Lenoir-Rhyne the lead with under two minutes left.
  • Charles Mutter threw the go-ahead touchdown pass for E&H with 29 seconds left.
  • Emory & Henry put the icing on the cake with a Jacob Robinson 25 yard pick-six with 11 seconds remaining. 
STATS OF THE GAME: BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Alex Boyd scored his third rushing touchdown in the last two games. He now leads the Bears in rushing touchdowns (5) through the first five games.
  • DeAree Rogers registered a touchdown reception for the second straight game.
  • Andre Jefferson's sack in the 1st quarter was his fifth of the season. He now has 34.5 sacks in his career.
  • This was Jake Brown's second game making two field goals in a game (Mars Hill 3-3).
  • Bears are now 7-2 all-time against the Wasps. This First loss against Emory & Henry since 1924.  
UP NEXT: The Bears return home next week to face off against the Wolves from Newberry University. Newberry is coming off a 34-9 loss to Mars Hill earlier today. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m at Moretz.
