Men's Soccer season ends in SAC Championship game

MATTHEWS, NC - The incredible run has come to an end for the Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer team, falling 5-2 to top seeded Limestone in the SAC Championship game. The Bears led 2-1 at the break, but four second half goals from the Saints propelled them to their second straight tournament championship.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne struck first, as Jaheim Smith took a pass from Harri Rowe and buried it in the back of the net just seven minutes into the game. 
  • Limestone answered just four minutes later, tying the game at one. 
  • Raul Canas scored his sixth goal of the season in the 29th minute, burying a shot in the top right corner to give the Bears a 2-1 lead at the break.
  • The Saints pressed early and often in the second half, tying the game back up in the 49th minute and taking the lead off a Kaiss Mansouri goal in the 58th minute. 
  • Limestone's Nikolaj Bertelsen saved shots from Ido Omaysi and Guillermo Garcia over the next 10 minutes to keep the Bears at bay. 
  • Two more goals from the Saints late in the game sealed their second straight championship.
  • Tomas Fontes made a career high eight saves in the game. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Jaheim Smith's goal was his first of the season. 
  • Harri Rowe finished the season with nine assists, tied for fifth most in school history.
  • Rowe's 21 career assists put him fourth all-time.
  • Head Coach Carlos Rubio finishes his second season as the head man with a record of 8-8-1. 
  • This was LR's seventh SAC Championship game appearance.
