ROCK HILL, SC - Nine Bears were named to the All-Conference team, as announced by the league today. Three Bears earned First Team All-Conference honors, while six others were named to the All-Division Team.
Leading the way on the All-SAC Offense team was
Songa Yates, who made it both as a wide receiver and return specialist. He ranks second on the team with 602 receiving yards and three touchdowns. As a return man, Yates was tops in the conference with an average of 24.3 yards per kick return. Joining him on the All-SAC Offense Team was long snapper
Carson Keaton, who is consistantly known as one of the best long snappers in the country. On the All-Defense team was
Andre Jefferson and
Nic Cheeley. Despite playing just six games due to injury, Jefferson still managed to lead the team and finish eighth in the conference with 10.5 TFL. His 6.0 sacks placed him in a tie for sixth in the SAC. Cheeley was a quarterback nightmare this year, finishing in a tie for third in the SAC with five interceptions, all coming in a stretch of five straight games.Â
On the All-Piedmont Offense team was wide receiver
Adonis McDaniel and Offensive Lineman
Christopher Wehnert. McDaniel stepped up this season, finishing with a team-leading 663 receiving yards on 41 receptions. Wehnert, a transfer from Keiser, was the leader of an offensive line that allowed less than one sack per game.Â
The All-Piedmont Defense team consisted of
Maddox Aprile,
JT Black, and
Jaelin Willis. Aprile had a very strong first season in Hickory, finishing with 30 total tackles, 5.0 TFL, and 2.0 sacks. Playing only nine games due to injury, Black finished with 12 total tackles, 4.0 TFL, and 1.5 sacks. He forced a clutch fumble in a 33-14 win over Catawba. Willis was a menace on defense this season, finishing with a team leading 67 tackles. The former NAIA All-American notched 10.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, four QB hurries, two interceptions, and one pass breakup.Â
Head Coach
Doug Socha and the Bears will continue their season in the first round of the NCAA DII playoffs this Saturday when they head to Livinston, Alabama, to take on #3 seeded West Alabama.
