Bears Fall Short After Coker's Second Half Comeback

HICKORY, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball fell to Coker 71-65 on Wednesday afternoon inside the Shuford Arena. Down by six early in the second half, the Cobras outscored the Bears 40-30 over the final 20 minutes to take this one by six.

The Bears were led in scoring by Emily Harman, who had a season-high 23 points. She becomes the 6th player in program history to score 1600 points.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • LR had a 17-11 lead after the first ten minutes, shooting 50% from the floor in the opening period.
  • The Bears held a 10-point lead early in the second quarter thanks to an Emily Harman three.
  • Coker cut the lead to four at the half after a deep three pointer by Shawntenna Tillman at the buzzer. 
  • Most of the third quarter was played within one possession as Coker took their first lead since the first minute of the game with 6:49 remaining in the frame.
  • Coker then held a 52-49 lead heading into the final frame. 
  • The Cobras extended their lead to nine points with 3:26 left but the Bears had one more run in them, cutting it to 67-65 after a Harman three pointer with :31 seconds left. 
  • Coker would hit all four of their free throws in the final seconds and the Bears missed their last two shots as Coker came away with the victory. 
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Emily Harman's 23 points are a season high.
  • Alexandra Merceron had 17 points on 8-16 shooting while adding four assists. 
  • Blaikley Crooks joined Merceron and Harman in double digits with 12 points. 
  • Bears only shot six free throws in the game, a season low. 
  • Coker dominated the glass, out rebounding the Bears 40-21, including 16 on the offensive side. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne was 28-58 (48.3%) from the field and 6-12 (50%) from three. 
  • Coker went 27-55 (49.1%) from the field and 8-14 (57.1%) from three.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • With her first basket of the day Harman become the 6th player in program history to score 1600 points in her career. 
  • Harman had her 23rd career 20-point game today.
  • Coker snapped the Bears five game winning streak in the series with the win.
  • After failing to score in double digits for the first time this season, Merceron had 17 points today. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will welcome King to Shuford Arena on Saturday for one final game of 2024. King is 5-6 on the season after falling to Barton 60-55 on Tuesday night.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
