HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team easily dispatched of Johnson C. Smith in the home opener at the YMCA of Catawba Valley on Sunday afternoon. The Bears defeated the Golden Bulls 7-0. 

In doubles, the Bears took control early. Runa Muderrisoglu and Claudia Orsini earned the win in first doubles by a count of 6-2. Alicia Wahlberg and Nellie Wahlberg cruised to a 6-0 sweep in second doubles while Alexa Allison and Molly McWethy grabbed a 6-2 victory to take all three for LR. 

It was more of the same in singles action. Muderrisoglu won 6-1, 6-0 and Orsini went 6-1, 6-1 in first and second singles respectively. Alicia Wahlberg breezed to a straight set win in third singles. Dawson Clifford garnered a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the number five spot while McWethy won by opponent retirement after taking the first set 6-4 and having a 1-0 lead in the second. The biggest fight put up by the visitors came in the fourth singles slot as Allison eventually took down Bligen Auset 6-2 and 6-4. 

UP NEXT: The Bears will get back in action on Thursday when they travel to Carson-Newman for a 2 p.m. first serve.
