Hollar Earns 1000th Win in Bears Sweep of Mars Hill

Hickory, N.C.-- Head Coach Shena Hollar earned her 1000th career win in the Bears sweep of Mars Hill. The Bears defeated the Lions 8-0 in game one for the 999th career win then the Bears defeated Mars Hill 6-0 for Hollar's 1000th career win. Hollar in her 25th season here in Hickory won her 955th game as a Bear and her 1000th career win as Hollar's becomes the 8th active coach in NCAA Division II to reach the 1,000 win milestone.

  • Lauren Rakes threw a two-hit complete game in the opener. Rakes struck out 14 Lions allowing just two hits and two walks to pick up win number 11 on the season. 
  • Rakes helped her self as the Rakes hits a grand salm in the third inning to give the Bears a 6-0 lead. 
  • Rakes then added her 5th RBI of the game with a single in the 5th inning. 
  • The Bears walked it off when Katelyn Rackard scored on a fielding error in the sixth inning envoking the mercy rule 
GAME TWO INFO:
  • Bears nursing a 1-0 lead when the Bears used the long ball in the 4th inning as Lora Beth Wood and Madison Wilson both hit two-run homers in the inning.
  • Kaylan Brown had a RBI single in between the homeruns as LR scored five runs in the 4th inning.
  • Wilson threw the complete game shutout in the circle allowing four hits and striking out seven. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Bears move to 14-2 when they hit at least two homeruns in a game. 
  • Julia Mardigian had her 17 multi-hit game with two hits in the first game.
  • Rakes joins Mardigian and Wood with a 5 RBI game this season.
  • The shutouts were WIlson's second of the season and Rakes third. 

UP NEXT:  Bears will hit the road for six games in four days starting with a trip to Catabwa on Tuesday. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
