Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 29 Men’s Tennis Drops to No. 30 Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team had its five-match win streak snapped with a 5-2 defeat to Tusculum.

At the start of the match, the No. 3 doubles line of Raphael Champaud and Nevio Dux picked up a 6-2 victory to give the Bears a chance to earn the first point of the day. However, the Pioneers earned a 6-4 win at the No. 2 line, followed by a 7-6 win at the No. 1 line to take the 1-0 lead.

After scooping the early advantage, Tusculum continued to add onto its strong start by grabbing the first two singles victories at the No. 2 and No. 6 lines. Despite the 3-0 hole, that did not slow down Rufus Plane, who pulled out a three-set thriller at the No. 4 spot.

The sophomore, who started off the match with a 6-1 first-set victory, was handed a difficult 7-5 defeat in the second set. Fortunately for the Bears, the Cardiff, Wales native prevailed in the third set with a 6-2 outcome, which gives him his seventh-straight singles win.

While the Pioneers were able to gain the pivotal fourth victory, Vadym Rogynskyi squeezed out another three-set victory for the Bears.

The sophomore took the opening set, 6-4, before losing 7-6 in the second set. With the match officially decided, Rogynskyi played a 10-point tiebreak in lieu of a traditional third set. Despite the adjustment, the sophomore conquered the match with a 14-12 victory.

UP NEXT: The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team will remain on the road with a mid-week conference contest against Emory & Henry on Tuesday, April 2. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. from the Ida Jones Tennis Center in Bristol, Tenn.
