Bears Fall to Eagles in SAC Semifinals

Rock Hill, S.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team fell to the Carson-Newman Eagles 60-57 in the SAC Semifinals. The game was a back and forth contest that saw 10 lead changes and was tied nine times. The Eagles will advance to tomorrow championship game against Wingate. Blaikley Crooks lead the Bears with 19 points as LR will await Selection Sunday to see what seed they draw in next week's NCAA Tournament.

STATS AND INFO:

  • Bears are now 4-8 in semifinals games in the SAC Tournament.  
  • This is the first time the SAC Tournament is being held in Rock Hill, S.C.
  • LR came into the game #2 in the last Southeast regional rankings.
  • Bears have played C-N in 14 of their 39 SAC Tournament games.
  • Eagles hold a 10-4 record in those games including today's game.

FIRST HALF:

  • Jayda Glass hit a layup at the end of the first quarter to give the Bears an early 15-12 lead after ten minutes. 
  • Bears held a one point lead at the break as both teams struggled shooting from the floor. 
  • Eagles shot 38% in the first quarter and 29% in the second quarter while the Bears made just four shots from the floor in the second period. 

SECOND HALF:

  • Eagles scored the first five points coming out of halftime to open a four point lead with 8:07 left in third
  • Bears responded with a 9-2 run to retake the lead with 4:38 left in the third quarter. 
  • With :7 seconds on the third, Tilda Lindstrom was fouled on a three-point attempted and hit all three free throws to take a 44-43 lead into the final period. 
  • The whole 4th quarter was played within one possession as the Bears had a 57-54 lead with 1:23 lead. 
  • After an old fashioned three-point by Lindsey Taylor tied it 57-57 before the Bears turned the ball over giving the Eagles the last possession.
  • Braelyn Wykle then hit a jumper with three seconds left and was fouled to give the Eagles the lead. Wykle hit the free throw and Emily Harman's three pointer at the buzzer was blocked as the Eagles advance to the SAC Championship. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Bears held Wykle to just nine points but she hit the game winning shot.
  • Harman finished with 13 points while adding four assists. 
  • Eagles out rebounded the Bears 41-26 on the afternoon. 
  • Bears hit just 4-18 from long range, hitting one three pointer each quarter. 
  • Lindstrom lead the Bears with seven rebounds while no one else had more then three. 

UP NEXT:  Bears will await their NCAA spot on Sunday night. Bears will be in the field for the second season as LR was #2 in the final Southeast regional rankings.
