No. 38 Men's Tennis Falls Out of SAC Tournament

SUMTER, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team had its SAC Tournament run cut short with a 4-2 loss to No. 30 Carson-Newman in the quarterfinal round.

The match got off to a good start for the Bears as they took two of the three doubles lines to earn the first point of the day. After losing the No. 2 doubles match, LR bounced back in the No. 1 spot with a 7-5 victory led by Vadym Rogynskyi and Rufus Plane.

To clinch the match's first point, Connor Donley and Nevio Dux won at the No. 3 line in a 7-6 tiebreak victory. The LR duo came out on top in the tiebreaker, winning 7-3, which gave the Bears the early advantage heading into singles.

Despite the momentum from a thrilling round of doubles, the Bears could not translate their success to singles. The only match that LR was able to prevail in was at the No. 4 spot, where Plane cruised his way to a 6-1, 6-2 result.

In the singles section of the match, Carson-Newman won three of its four lines in straight-set fashion. The lone three-set match was a Marnix Van Dalen 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory for the Eagles at the No. 1 line.

With the loss, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team ends with a 10-7 record which includes a 7-5 conference mark. This also marks the fourth-straight SAC Tournament that the Bears have fallen out in the quarterfinal round.
