Notes:
Matchup History: These teams have met just once, as Anderson is just a second-year program. Last year's matchup went down to the wire, with Lenoir-Rhyne needing a last second field goal from
Jake Brown to win it.
Jalen Ferguson went 29-for-43 with 295 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Songa Yates went off, catching nine passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Jamir Fox tallied 66 yards on the ground with a score. Defensively
Christian Santana led with seven tackles, including one sack for six yards.
Maddox Aprile notchedd five tackles with two quarterback hurries. Yates had six total returns, including a 67-yard kickoff return. That game sealed Lenoir-Rhyne's second consecutive playoff bid.
Opponent Profile: Anderson currently sports a 4-2 (2-2 SAC) record and took down UVA Wise 50-7 last week on their homecoming. The Trojans opened the season with victories over Shorter (34-7), Erskine (35-7), and Tusculum (30-0), earning them a vote in the national poll for the first time in school history. They then fell to Mars Hill (21-14) and Emory & Henry (42-13) before getting back to their winning ways last week against UVA Wise. Quarterback Tyler Wesley is the Trojan's leader, starting all six games while throwing for 1,203 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions. His 10 touchdowns is fifth in the SAC while his 200.5 yards per game ranks seventh. Four receivers have at least 200 yards, led by Jalon Warthen-Carr with 240 yards and two scores. Anderson has scored 12 touchdowns on the ground, with 10 of those coming from Bryson James, Zaidon Gunn, and Wesley. The Anderson defense is led by three 30+ tackle performers in Carter Wit, Josiah Jeffery, and Jerrod Woods. The Trojans' defensive line is no joke as they lead the SAC in sacks (14) and total yards allowed per game (218.7). Head Coach Bobby Lamb is a veteran of the game, having coached at DI Mercer (seven seasons) and Furman (nine seasons) before coming to Anderson. He sports a career record of 115-89.
Lenoir-Rhyne Profile: The Bears are 3-3 (2-2 SAC) and are coming off a big 32-25 road victory at Valdosta State last week. Quarterback
Khamoni Robinson accounted for all four of Lenoir-Rhyne's touchdowns, rushing for three and passing for one. He leads the SAC with 251.6 passing yards per game and is sixth with nine passing touchdowns.
Songa Yates (391),
Zion Agnew (353), and
Destun Thomas (331) have become key targets for Robinson. Yates sits at four touchdowns on the season and is one away from entering the Lenoir-Rhyne all-time top ten.
Ben Watson is tied for the conference lead with 52 total tackles while
Maddox Aprile is fourth with 7.5 TFL.
Desmond Greene has three interceptions on the season, with two coming at Valdosta State last week. Punter
Stewart Simmons has become a staple on the Lenoir-Rhyne special teams, as he is averaging 43.78 yards per punt, which ranks seventh in NCAA Division II.
Rankings: The AFCA Top-25 saw just one change in it's top five, with Western Colorado entering at the No. 5 spot following Angelo State's 28-14 loss to UT Permian Basin. Ferris State, Harding, West Florida, and Kutzdown are holding down the 1-4 spots. Catawba, Emory & Henry, and Carson-Newman are all receiving votes in the national poll.
SAC Standings: The SAC is wide open this year, with every team having at least one loss. Leading the conference is Emory & Henry, who sport a 4-1 conference record. Catawba, Newberry, and Mars Hill also have just one defeat, but are behind E&H due to the amount of games played. Newberry went into Wingate and upset the Bulldogs 43-42 in overtime, putting them directly in the SAC title hunt. With a two-loss team expected to win the SAC this year, the only two schools most likely out of the race are UVA Wise (1-4) and Tusculum (0-4). For the rest of the schools, the conference title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament is up for grabs.
