Men's Soccer picks up second straight victory with 1-0 win vs. Coker

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer team is on a roll. On Saturday night the Bears gave Coker just their second loss of the season, as a Voro Rivera Peris goal in the 57th minute sealed the win. 

The Bears have now won two straight matches and haven't lost since Wednesday, September 24th, at Emory & Henry.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Daniel Martinez opened the game with three shots in the first 10 minutes.
  • The Bears out shot the Cobras 8-1 in the first half, but just one of those shots was on goal.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne's breakthrough came in the 57th minute when Jonas Moos slotted in a perfect ball to Voro Rivera Peris, who finished for his first goal of the year.
  • Tomas Fontes made two of his five saves in the 82nd and 83rd minute, keeping a hungry Coker team out of the net. 
  • The Bears out shot the Cobras 14-9 and forced five Coker offsides. 
  • There were a mere three cards in this game, with just one going to the Bears.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne is now 17-6-3 all-time against the Cobras and have won three of the last four.

UP NEXT: The Bears next game will be a battle with Mars Hill on Wednesday night. The Lions are 3-2-6 (1-1-4 SAC) and tied Carson-Newman 1-1 last night on a rare Friday night contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm from Hickory.
