Bears cruise at home against Coker

HICKORY. N.C.-  The Bears prevailed 3-0 against the Coker Cobras on Saturday. Kayli Cleaver and Averie Dale combined for 19 kills and 10 blocks while Sydney Karjala led the team with 21 assists in the win. 

The Bears will conclude their three-match home stand against Tusculum on Tuesday.

STORY OF THE MATCH: 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne jumped ahead 6-0 to begin the first set before Coker called their first timeout.
  • Emmie Modlin and Emmaleigh Allen combined for all five kills in a 5-2 run, extending the Bears lead to 14-5.
  • Back-to-back attack errors from Coker sealed the set one victory for the Bears 25-14.
  • An Addison Vary kill gave the Bears a 14-12 lead in a back-and-forth affair in set two.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne prevailed to a 25-21 set two victory off an Allen service ace.
  • Similar to set one, the Bears jumped ahead early with a 10-0 lead in set three.
  • Rachael Chambers and Emmie Modlin generated a block assist to win the match in three sets.
  • The Bears produced at least 14 kills and a .270 hitting percentage in each set.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne finished with nine service aces and 10 blocks.

  • This is the 14th straight victory against the Cobras. 
  • Kayli Cleaver has 42 kills against Coker in three matches. 
  • Averie Dale was second in the SAC in hitting percentage at .362 entering today and finished with a season-high seven blocks.

UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will host Tusculum on Tuesday night as the Bears and Pioneers will play twice in a four day span. Tusculum is currently on a four game losing streak after suffering a tough five set loss last night against Newberry. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm from inside the Shu.
