WINGATE, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne football team dropped an absolute heartbreaker on Saturday, falling 38-37 in overtime at Wingate. The Bears matched Wingate's overtime score with one of their own, but a two-point conversion was stuffed by the Bulldog defense.
"It was a hard fought emotional game today," said head coach
Doug Socha. "We had some missed opportunities and needed one more play."

STORY OF THE GAME:
- The Bears opened up hot, scoring on their first drive thanks to a 47-yard touchdown pass form Khamoni Robinson to Zion Agnew.
- On Lenoir-Rhyne's next drive, Robinson hit Songa Yates for his 17th career touchdown, this time a 52-yard connection.
- Defensive back Desmond Greene stopped a promising Wingate drive with his fourth interception of the year.
- The Bear took advantage as Robinson capped off a 9 play, 65-yard drive with a seven yard rushing touchdown, putting LR up 21-3.
- Wingate scored quickly on their next possession but the Bears answered with a Brayden Cresimore field goal as time expired.
- The home side took control in the third quarter, scoring twice to make it a 24-24 game with one quarter remaining.
- With Wingate at the Lenoir-Rhyne 15, John Royal intercepted Bulldog quarterback Elijah Holmes and ran it back 52-yards, setting the Bears up with great field possession.
- Alex Boyd capped off the short drive with a five yard score.
- Despite a James Ussery interception, the Wingate defense stood tall, forcing quick drives from the Bears.
- Wingate went 74 yards in 1:34 to tie the game at 31 with 19 seconds remaining, sending the game to overtime.
- The Bulldogs scored in just three plays on their first overtime possession.
- Robinson ran it in for six yards on the Bears OT possession, but their 2-point conversion attempt was stuffed by Wingate's Elijah Barnes.

- Khamoni Robinson was 21-for-30 with 283 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for two scores as well.
- Alex Boyd has his first 100 yard rushing game of the year, finishing with 103 yards and score.
- Songa Yates tied a career-high with nine receptions, ending with 119 yards and a score.
- Zion Agnew tallied five catches for 86 yards and a score.
- James Ussery led the team with a career-high 13 tackles and a pick.
- Wingate led 507-453 in total offense.
- Lenoir-Rhyne was 9-for-14 on third downs.
BEYOND THE STATS:
- Songa Yates is now tied for seventh all-time in Lenoir-Rhyne history with 17 touchdown receptions.
- Wingate has now won four straight against the Bears.
- This was Lenoir-Rhyne's highest scoring game of the season.
- Tate O'Bryan set a new career high with 76 receiving yards.
- Brayden Cresimore's 44-yard field goal was Lenoir-Rhyne's longest of the season.
The Bears have a rare late bye week next week. Their final game of the season will take place on Saturday, November 15th, at home against Catawba. This game doubles a senior day celebration. Catawba (6-3, 4-3 SAC) fell in a tight 24-16 game at Carson-Newman earlier tonight.
