Bears finish regular season strong; set to face Wingate in SAC tournament

Salisbury, N.C. - The Bears wrapped up their regular season finale with a 2-1 win over the Catawba Indians. Raul Canas and Daniel Martinez each scored goals that helped march the Bears to victory.

The Bears will now turn their attention to the SAC tournament, with the opening round starting Saturday.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Bears created multiple scoring opportunities early in the half, with shots from Hector Taboada and Macoy Strawn.
  • Raul Canas scored for the Bears off an assist from Daniel Martinez in the 42nd minute, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead before halftime.
  • Taboada and Canas both collected multiple shots on goal for the Bears. 
  • Catawba nearly spoiled the fun wtih a goal in the 71st minute.
  • The Bears took back the lead with a late goal from Daniel Martinez, essentially sealing the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne is 6-0-3 since their loss at Emory & Henry on September 24th. 
  • Raul Canas' goal was his fourth of the year while Daniel Martinez's was his second.
  • Anderson earned the No. 1 seed in the SAC with a 4-0 win over Newberry earlier tonight.
UP NEXT: The Bears will be back in Hickory, N.C., on Saturday for the opening round of the SAC Conference Tournament, where they earned the No. 4 seed. Just like the women, the men will be taking on Wingate. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
