Bears fall on the road at No. 7 Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, TN - The Bears fell 87-59 to a red hot Lincoln Memorial squad on Saturday, giving them a split in the season series. Ziare Wells was the only Bears in double-figures, finishing with 17 points on 8-15 shooting.

STORY OF THE GAME
  • After an early 6-2 lead by the Bears, Lincoln Memorial went on a 22-2 run to blow open the game. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne closed the quarter strong, as a dunk by Shem Sawy sparked a 7-0 run to end the half, keeping the game within reach.
  • A Tay Smith jumper trimmed the lead to nine (42-33) early in the second half, but LMU answered with a 12-2 run to keep the Bears at bay.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne never got closer than 13 the rest of the way as Lincoln Memorial came away with the 28-point victory.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Ziare Wells (17) was the only double-digit scorer for the Bears in this one.
  • Sam Martin and Tay Smith tied for the team lead with six rebounds each.
  • The Bears shot 21-64 (32.8%) from the field and just 2-17 (11.8%) from three.
  • Lincoln Memorial went 30-55 (54.5%) from the field and 10-24 (41.7%) from three. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne went 15-17 (88.2%) at the free throw line, their highest percentage this season in a single game where they shot over 10 free throws.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne, who sits firmly in second place in the SAC standings, will have a week off before they travel to Gaffney, South Carolina, next Saturday to take on Limestone. The Saints fell 93-83 to Coker earlier tonight. Tipoff for next Saturday's contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
